The Library Unit at TED Bodrum College aims to instil a love of reading and learning in students and to allow them to use information in competent, critical, and other suitable ways. The school prepares environments that are suitable for students to identify their needs for information, to locate the information they need, to evaluate the quality of resources, and to present research results in an effective manner. The goal here is to train individuals who embrace the principle of “life-long learning”.
Our library is home to a range of electronic collections and services, as well as more than 6000 traditionally printed resources. Designed in such a manner as to accommodate small group work, individual reading, teaching or large groups, and access to multimedia presentations, the library also offers computer networks for individual research and group learning. The Apple Center situated in the Library also enables this area to be used as an “Information Access Centre”.
There are silent reading areas, teaching areas for student research, areas for periodicals and special collections, as well as space for audio-visual collections. Our library represents a productive learning environment that invites students to research.
Our students are encouraged to read through a number of activities and applications. Students that read the most books every month are awarded a “Bookworm”. A range of activities are organised to celebrate Children’s Book Week and Library Week to raise awareness on books. During these weeks, varying activities are held from reinterpretation of book covers to adults reading to children. On the “Be a Book Hero” Day, our students masquerade as the hero of a book of their choosing and obtain more detailed information on the respective book. In addition, a number of prominent authors are invited to our school throughout the year to meet our students.
Parents with a relevant interest take part in a TED Book Lovers’ Club to discuss a book every month and these events are meticulously monitored by our Library Unit as a positive model for our students.
